Researched, planned, coordinated, chaperoned, guided, and mentored experiential tours of [Latin America]. 90 days (one semester) in length.

Students will spend 60 days in a [Latin American] country with approved host families. During this time, students will…

  • alternately integrate and participate with both host family and school group
  • participate in service project(s) benefiting the host and/or surrounding community(ies)
  • tour and participate in local cultural sites, events, etc (not including shopping malls, etc.)

Students will be responsible for 10 photographs, each one accompanied by exactly 1000 words. These non-fiction accounts may include insight, illumination, and amplification of subject and surroundings, including history and present experience of both photographer and subject(s). 10,000 words total.

Upon return from travels, students will have 30 days to complete their photojournalism assignment, the results of which will be submitted for printing. Students shall receive one copy free of charge. A fee will be charged for extra books. (Results will also be made available via newly created University page on Project 1:1000 domain(s) listed above.

GRADING

20%  •  Service work participation

50%  •  Accurate and on-time completion of photojournalism assignment
